Dimensional Control Survey
3D Engineering Survey Dimensional Control and monitoring services, utilizing proven engineering survey techniques and modern survey equipment, can substantially benefit any offshore project. Reducing dependency on on-site "hot work," increasing safety, and reducing on-site materials handling are just some challenges facing plant and construction managers. Our Total Quality Assurance expertise and experience in Dimensional Control Management can meet these challenges and help ensure "clash-free" design and installation of projects involving piping, structural and equipment components that must integrate and “fit first time” and “single weld hookup”. The images illustrate 3D Engineering proprietary software for verifying single weld hooks on large projects with multiple critical interfaces between adjacent units.
Is a Single-Weld Hookup Possible?
Yes, our modular build and single-weld hook-up services offer faster construction, fewer on-site man hours, improved safety, and no surprises. By pre-assembling units (PAUs and PARs) and conducting detailed surveys, we ensure accurate placement on-site for a first-time fit and single weld hook-up.
Benefits of Using Dimensional Control
Dimensional Control Surveys ensure a first-time fit, reduce construction time, and eliminate fitting failures. Offsite fabrication increases efficiency, reduces on-site work, and prevents surprises. We use precise drawings to track dimensional changes and maintain project accuracy.
Survey Methodology
Our survey methodology involves precision measurement of vessel roofs, new plenums, and other critical components. We model these measurements to establish the required geometry and mark orientation on shells and installation pieces. Complex cut-outs are created in lay-down yards to ensure precise installation.

Deliverables and Services
Comprehensive Planning and Precision Data Collection
At the start, we conduct detailed 3D surveys to establish precise control points and coordinate systems, essential for accurate project planning. If relocating a plant, we survey both the old and new sites to ensure perfect replication. Data collection includes precise 3D measurements of existing plants in both operational and idle conditions. We create CAD models, apply temperature corrections for accuracy, and issue 2D drawings for fabricators. Major new plant items are surveyed, and, where possible, we conduct fab shop surveys to guarantee precise assembly before shipment.
Virtual Fit-Up and Installation Oversight.
In the virtual fit-up stage, we replace outdated plant components in our CAD models and check all interfaces, supports, and civil fits to ensure perfect alignment. We identify cut lines, mark match points, and conduct clash surveys to avoid issues during installation. Throughout the installation process, we survey each element, compare it with our CAD models, and address any deviations promptly to ensure a flawless final assembly.
Topographical Surveys.
We provide detailed mapping of natural and man-made land features to support construction planning, ensuring the terrain is accurately represented and potential issues are detected early.
Overhead and Buried Conductor Surveys.
These surveys identify and map the location of overhead and buried power lines or pipelines, helping to prevent damage and ensuring compliance with safety standards during construction.
Pipeline Surveys and Alignment Sheets.
We conduct precise pipeline surveys and create alignment sheets detailing the pipeline’s route, including directional and elevation changes, to ensure correct installation and efficient operation.
Buried Utility Surveys Using GPR.
Using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), we accurately locate and map buried utilities, such as water pipes and cables. This non-invasive approach helps avoid utility strikes and ensures safe, cost-effective construction.
Near Shore Hydrographic Surveys.
We map underwater topography near shorelines, essential for dock construction, dredging, and other marine projects. These surveys provide critical data on water depths, seabed conditions, and underwater hazards.
Dimensional Control for Critical Interfaces in Complex Environments.
We specialize in ensuring precise dimensional control for critical interfaces in industrial settings, ensuring seamless integration of components, reducing errors, and improving overall project efficiency.
