Track Monitoring

Keeping rail infrastructure safe is at the heart of what we do. We are experienced in providing specialist track monitoring surveys for embankment, UTX, piling works, and any construction adjacent to track in accordance with NR/L2/CIV177. We deploy either a manual or automated system, set to alarm if trigger values are reached. We also monitor other Network Rail assets and structures. For permanent monitoring, our systems provide 24/7 remote operation, continuous monitoring, real-time measurement data, and TRK001 Track Inspections. Changes in gauge, geometry, and position of the track are determined in accordance with NR/L2/CIV/177. Risk scoring matrices and Track Monitoring Plans (TMP) can also be produced for projects by our Competent Rail Engineer (CRE). Traditional "Manned" Remote Equipment

Before any works begin, getting an accurate baseline is essential. We undertake optical baseline surveys prior to commencement of any planned works, recording Easting, Northing, and Elevation coordinates, as well as physical cant and gauge readings — including visual TRK001 inspections. Targets are securely fixed to the web of each rail at 3m intervals, extending 30m outside any disturbed area within the Zone of Influence, surveyed on a local network grid. ATS – Automatic Total Station Systems (24/7 Continuous Monitoring)

When your project demands round-the-clock precision, our Automatic Total Station systems deliver. We deploy total stations with up to 0.5" accuracy for 3D measurement and imaging — measuring absolute XYZ railway geometry, horizontal alignment, vertical position, gauge, cant, and twist. Data is transmitted live to monitoring software and pushed to online analysis and visualisation platforms. Automated reports are generated and sent daily to the client at an appropriate frequency. Trigger values are configured to send instant alerts by email and SMS if values are breached. Additional support and analysis is provided by our in-house nominated CRE, with actions reviewed and mitigations actioned promptly. Over long-term projects, significant cost savings can be achieved. Void Assessments

Dynamic voiding under load can introduce dynamic twist faults and raise derailment concerns. We manage this through traditional methods under line blockages and track inspection using void meters — as well as remote Network void meters that provide instant 24/7 monitoring data through an online web interface, without the need for personnel to access the line during normal operation. Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) Management

Where projects affect the track system and require CRT management, we offer CRT Assessments, CRT Watchman, and CRT Coordinator services under CRT Management Plan NR/L3/TRK/7012 & NR/L2/TRK/001/mod14.
