Description of Work
3D Engineering Surveys is proud to have been awarded the Plant Digitalization Project for Fauji Fertilizer Company — one of Pakistan's most prominent industrial operators. This project exemplifies our capability to deliver end-to-end digital solutions for complex, large-scale process plants, transforming physical assets into fully intelligent, data-rich digital environments.
Leveraging cutting-edge laser scanning technology and our expertise in AVEVA E3D, we created a comprehensive digital twin of FFC's plant facilities — a powerful asset that will serve the client's engineering, operations, and maintenance teams for years to come.
Phase 1 – Precision Laser Scanning & Data Capture
Our team deployed high-density terrestrial laser scanning across the entire plant, capturing all process areas, utility corridors, pipe racks, equipment structures, and supporting infrastructure with millimetre-level precision. The resulting point cloud dataset forms the authoritative survey record of the facility and the foundation upon which all intelligent modelling work is built.
Phase 2 – Intelligent 3D Modelling in AVEVA E3D
Using the captured point cloud as our reference, 3D Engineering Surveys developed a fully intelligent As-Built 3D model within AVEVA E3D — one of the industry's most advanced plant design and modelling platforms. The model encompasses every critical element of the facility, including:
• Piping Systems — Complete modelling of all process and utility pipelines, incorporating pipe routing, bends, reducers, flanges, and all inline components across every process area.
• Equipment — Precise 3D representation of all major and minor equipment, including vessels, columns, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, and their associated structures.
• Structural Steelwork — Full modelling of pipe racks, platforms, access walkways, staircases, and all structural support systems.
• Supports & Cable Trays — Detailed modelling of piping supports, cable tray systems, and associated steelwork, ensuring a complete and accurate representation of the plant.
Intelligent Tagging & Asset Intelligence
What sets this project apart is the depth of intelligence embedded within the model. Utilizing client-supplied documentation — including P&IDs, equipment lists, line lists, and instrument indexes — the model was comprehensively tagged and enriched with:
• Equipment tag numbers and descriptions
• Instrument and valve tag numbers
• Pipeline line numbers and piping classes (Class 150, Class 300, Class 600, and beyond)
• Flow directions and pressure ratings
• Material specifications and valve types (gate, globe, check, butterfly, control, and more)
• A fully structured asset hierarchy, aligned with FFC's asset management framework
The result is not simply a 3D model — it is a living, queryable intelligence layer over the entire plant.
Phase 3 – Deliverables
Every deliverable was crafted to integrate seamlessly into FFC's existing workflows and future engineering endeavors:
• AVEVA E3D Intelligent 3D Model — A fully navigable, intelligent model purpose-built for plant operations, future modifications, and engineering reviews.
• Navisworks Federated Model — A consolidated model enabling multi-discipline review, clash detection, and broader team access without the need for AVEVA E3D licenses.
• Intelligent Isometric Drawings — Auto-generated isometrics complete with bills of materials, weld maps, and model-driven annotations.
• Layout & General Arrangement Drawings — Accurate plan and elevation drawings of key plant areas, extracted directly from the 3D model.
• Asset Hierarchy Documentation — A structured asset register ready for integration with FFC's maintenance planning and asset management systems.
