3DES Awarded Major Refinery Relocation and Integration Project in Japan
3D Engineering Surveys (3DES), working alongside its digital plant relocation division ExonTech Engineering, has been awarded a significant contract to relocate three units at the Seibu Refinery in Japan.
Work has already begun on site, where the project team is carrying out laser scanning to capture accurate as-built data. This information will be developed into a fully intelligent 3D model using AVEVA E3D software.
To support precise dismantling, the project will use ExonTech Engineering's proprietary digital match-marking system. QR codes will be applied to every cut, break, dismantled component, and instrument on site, with each item assigned a unique Asset Transfer Number. This data links directly back to the 3D model, allowing the project team to track assets through laydown yards, shipping logistics, and the final rebuild.
The award builds on 3DES's existing relationship with the client. The company previously built a 3D model from legacy documentation for purchased DHT and H2 units, managing the complete piping and steel design, stress analysis, and the generation of intelligent isometrics and fabrication drawings.
For this new phase, 3DES's design team in Manila will lead the redesign of the dismantled units from Japan, seamlessly configuring and integrating them into the DHT and H2 units currently under construction.
